Kanye West Makes Surprise Appearance at Odd Future Carnival

Rapper performs ‘New Slaves’ and ‘Late’ with Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt

Fans at the second annual Odd Future carnival were in for a treat last night as Kanye West took a moment out between Yeezus tour dates to make a surprise appearance at the show. Following in the steps of Lil Wayne’s 2012 guest stint, West took the stage during Tyler, the Creator’s headlining set to perform the Yeezus track “New Slaves,” joined by Tyler and Earl Sweatshirt.

A clearly delighted Tyler took the mic to introduce West’s second selection. “I don’t know what to do right now, so – can I have a hug first? I am so fucking happy,” he said. West went on to perform “Late” off his 2005 album, Late Registration, trading lines with his host.

Kanye West declared himself a big fan of Tyler, the Creator in a recent interview with 97.1 AMP Radio in Los Angeles. As Rap-Up reports, West even described the younger rapper as “a good mentor,” and said that he helped out with some of the Yeezus merchandizing.

“He’s so talented and understands things because he went to film school. I literally would like e-mail and be like, ‘Can you teach me how to make videos? I want to learn,’” West told the station.

The Yeezus tour, which has been on hold after a series of cancellations and logistical setbacks, is set to resume on November 16th in Philadelphia.
